One of the most intriguing planes of design is the ceiling. In some ways, I am shocked that I have not paid more attention to the blank canvas above my head all of these years! At our old house, we did paint the office ceiling green, but it was very premeditated. It kind of just happened. Well, now I am meditating on it and trying to figure out how a more than average ceiling can find its way into our home. I've rounded up some inspiration to reference and thought I would share it with you. I love how so many of these rooms make a ceiling statement but there is also great flow within the entire room, too.
I am currently thinking of applying this inspiration in the following ways:
- Paint light yellow and white stripes on the ceiling of the master bedroom. Right now the walls are off white and the trim is white. Maybe this is the pop of color that we need?
- Paint the dining room ceiling a lighter tone than the walls. I would probably do this at the same time we decide to update the lighting fixture. A bright and fun color on the ceiling in combination with a ceiling medallion (like our old house had!) and new light is a recipe for a pretty snazzy dining room- which of course I like.
- Wallpaper the ceiling in Asa's bedroom with something whimsical and fun (maybe similar to the airplanes above?).
- Plank the ceiling in the kitchen and paint it white once we do our kitchen "facelift"
Now, will all of these ideas happen? Who knows. It is fun to imagine the possibilities, even if they lead to another idea down the road.
